Boat has <100 hours, owner says sea pump impeller changed every year when boat was summarized; owned for 10 years and bought from a friends parents. throttle cable(s) were greased up cuz they were getting tight, that was 4 years ago and all has been fine since. Are these decent boats? Not too familiar with the brand Stingray

I cannot say anything good or bad about Stingrays as I have never looked nor ridden in one...

I will add, it looks very, very clean and well cared for?! At 15 years old, condition will trump brands. The 4.3L is a great little powerplant that should make that boat move pretty good! Go thru all the systems and if it checks out and you can negotiate an acceptable price, then I'd ride in it!

Re: 1999 Strigray 190 RX

I had a '99 Stingray (195 RX I think, memory is foggy). It was a cuddy, not a bowrider like the one in the ad. I LOVED that boat. The 4.3 will get you on plane quickly and give you plenty of top end speed. Mine was the same color scheme and interior as the one in the ad too. The cockpit is a little cramped for a whole day on the water with 4 or more people, but that wouldn't be such an issue with the open bow. The Stingray has a narrower beam than some boats if I recall. 7.6' I think. The Z plane hull handled well but we never had it in anything very choppy. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. See what you did? Now you made me miss my old boat.

My dad has a 2001 190 LS. Good boat, quality construction, lightweight and good on fuel consumption. Because its a lighter bow rider as compared to other boats of similar length, you really feel the chop and vibration when underway, but on the plus side that lightweight design gets you up and out of the hole nicely and saves on fuel. Similar analogy would be the ride of a Honda Civic vs a Mercedes- not that the Honda is bad, its just a Honda. Bottom line is that Stingrays are good boats.

Our 190 Stingray is going on her 31st season. The size, roominess and performance fit us to a "T", so its not likely we'll ever need to buy another boat. If we do, though, it'll be another Stingray. Our son's Stingray is on her 7th season, also without any issues.

I just sold my 1997 Stingray 190RS, it was a great boat and had the 4cyl. We did every watersport possible behind it, it was really a great boat, easy to tow, easy on fuel, maintenance was low, hull was light but solid. Not a rough water boat- but a good lake choice.

My buddy had a '97 21' stingray living on silver lake, and boating on both silver lake and lake geneva in wisconsin. was a great boat.

The 190 is a great boat. Its does a lot of things well. Its light for trailering. It is one of the few 19 foot boats I found rated for 8 adults. You can prop it to hit 55 MPH, or prop it down to pull out slalom skiers and hold plane at wakeboard / kneeboard speeds. It turns on a dime. It will take medium chop pretty darn well.

Now, when I first read your thread I say no way -- impeller every year that is over-kill.

However, I see signs that that owner was obsessive with his care of that boat. See the silver side vent, that is an addition he added to the boat. That did not come on the boat. Thus, this is a guy who decided he wanted more cooling and air in the engine compartment.

The hi five is a great prop on this boat. It allows you to maintain a lot of your upper cruise speed and still have hole shot. That is a $500+ prop.

Go check that one out. It may be worth a little extra $$ and will be a great boat.

PS: You don't want the 4 banger version. Yeah, if that is the only way to get into a boat, so be it. But you want the 4.3 if at all possible.

Also, that boat has the LX seating configuration?

Go to stringrayboats.com and there is a link to research previous years boats. It is one really KOOL thing they do I wish other boat manufactures did. It really helped when I was in the used boat market for researching what was out there and things like trailer weight.

We used to routinely take another family with us before they bought their own boat. With 4 adults and 4 pre-teen kids, the hole shot was just fine. Yeah, 8 people with a 4-banger!

I should state that the prop is a double cupped 21" SS that was repitched to 20", so its probably about 20 1/2. It provides a wot rpm that is right at the top of the range.

That thing should be a rocket with the V6 in it, light weight, & Z-plane hull. I think they advertised this boat years ago being able to do 50mph! That's in stock form. All these Stingrays are sharp looking, reasonably priced, performance orientated packages.

Re: 1999 Strigray 190 RX

Wow guys, that's all great info; thanks a lot! Not sure if I've stated this or not yet in this post, but this is going to be my first boat. I've been looking all this year (2014) and lost out on a really nice crownline last week, oh well! Anyway the Stingray sounds to be your std quality boat such as a sea ray, but with a bit more high ender performance and sass. That works for me! I'll be taking it to Lake Geneva on weekends and sleepin on the boat so I'm concerned about how it handles the chop as that lake is crowded on weekends typically. Not too big o' fan of the seating arrangement on this one, would prefer to have the one with fold down seats; but this looks so clean I can't NOT look at it! Hopefully sometime this weekend i'll be seein it.

Is your goal a lot of water sports, tubing, skiing?

If you goal is to get on the lake and sleep on the boat, I think there are better boats for you.

agreed. if the goal is to sleep on the boat, your looking at a cuddy.

Geneva gets chaotic and crazy with all the weekend boaters.

Re: 1999 Strigray 190 RX

I know I know; call me crazy, maybe even a lil bit hillbilly but that's what we did with a buddies old sea ray. '68 sundancer 20' and we all just crammed into there staying the weekend on lake Geneva! it was a blast! I wont be doing any water sports, just floatin around casually havin some beers! I just like the open bow setup instead of havin a cuddy. sure the cuddy would be nice and ideal for my likings, but there's just something about the open bow that I want!

Search for an older Stingray 220 DR. You can have a canvas shop make you a full canvas enclosure for one of those.

Of ... there are some sweet pontoons that turn into great campers.

Re: 1999 Strigray 190 RX

I agree with sickwilley and Scott. Spending the night on that boat would not be fun. Even our Stingray cuddy was cramped. Fine for a couple kids or even some smaller adults but not what I'd call comfortable. I love the Stingrays but they are a little cramped. I'd look for something different. A larger cuddy or even as sickwilley suggested, a pontoon with the canvas. You'd like/love the Stingray for cruising or watersports but spending the night on it would, quite frankly, suck.

Re: 1999 Strigray 190 RX

If it helps, I've slept many a nights (in my younger, less discernible days) on a 1995 Champion Bass boat...wake up with dew all over my Northface down sleeping bag (Never get a down sleeping bag wet they say)...great trips spending all night rafted to 20-30 foot Crownlines and Wellcrafts (we we're still the fastest)...As long as you're young, you can sleep anywhere...and catch up later in life when you can?

Cheers!
