1999 sport jet force 120xr2 auto enrichener question?

Hello, I have a 1999 sport jet with a Force 120 XR2 serial #0E373430. My question is how does the auto enrichener work and how do you test it. If it works like a standard enrichener solenoid I'd say it's bad, but at $250 I'd like to be sure before ordering a new one. I removed the solenoid and tried applying 12V to the solenoid with no reactoin, I could still blow through the hose with or without power. When I push the key in no power comes to the solenoid, but after the engine runs for a while the solenoid gets warm to the touch like it's functioning "automatically" as the name "auto-enrichener" would imply. Is pushing the key in on these auto enricheners supposed to send power to the solenoid or are they truly automatic?

Not familiar with this set-up, but here is an explanation on how to test. Looks like it does not get 12V power from the battery, and it does not work by pushing the key in. It looks like it's pretty much automatic. It gets it's voltage from the stator. It works off of temperature, similar to a thermostat. I also assume that you have oil injection too?

When it's cold, you should be able to blown through the fuel inlet "i". After it gets warm, you should no longer be able to blow through the fuel inlet. The valve should close.

Sometimes a piece of crud can get lodged in the valve, preventing it from closing. When it's cold (valve open), spray some carburetor cleaner into the fuel inlet and maybe it'll clean it out.

Thank you again for the useful information. My auto enrichener seems to be fine now that I know how it works. I pulled the intakes off and found broken reed petal, I believe that to be the problem with starting and running issues.

At least you're headed in the right direction. Broken reed petal will definitely cause problems.
