Being really new to outboards I have a question about my 2000 90hp Johnson J90PLSSE shifter control There is a knob below the key that can be mover clockwise or counter clockwise. What is this knob supposed to do? Also, what do the RUN OFF symbols mean?

It's a tension screw losing it up the throttle will back off under way tighten it to tight it will be hard to move the throttle leaver.

The run-off is for the kill lanyard, shuts the key off if pulled, safety item.

Thanks for the info. There was no kill lanyard when I bought the boat and apparently no place to attach one.

It goes around where the key goes in, you push the key in and put the lanyard on. ( makes using the push to prime easier also)

Looks like they are pretty cheap and a good idea to have one. Thanks 175se
