I need help! My boat one day all of a sudden wouldn't crank. I figured maybe the starter had gone bad or the ignition switch. I checked for voltage in starting at the wire coming from the switch to the solenoid and I had nothing. I then bridged voltage coming from the battery into the solenoid to the wire coming from the switch and that got the starter cranking but I could not get it to start. Could it be the kill switch wire? I was going to buy the ignition switch but my switch has 9 wires and the ignition switches that come up for my boat have 6. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Gee, what are the colors of the 9 wires on the ign switch? 6 wires are usual.

They usual wire colors would be purple, red, black, black/yellow, yellow/black, yellow/red. The power trim wires could be nearby, and would be green/white and blue/white.

Only wires for the motor should be on the switch.-----------Radios / stereos / fish finders need to go to a seperate fused power supply.

I did check the main fuse and it was fine, also made sure my throttle lever is not accidently on nuetral.

Where do all those wires go ??-----And depending on the control box your shift lever has to be in the nuetral position for the starter to engage.

It appears that the ign switch is being used as a junction, as some of the wires are duplicates. You can use a standard magneto ign switch, and just put both purple wires on the IGN post to duplicate the function of your ign switch. You look to have duplicates for ign kill, switched battery, ground and ignition power.

White/red looks to be your starter solenoid wire, by process of elimination.

I agree Chris1956, I suspected something like that was going on. I will purchase the switch and let you guys know.

Racerone, I miss wrote my statement regarding the neutral position. I have verified it is on nuetral.
