I am looking to buy a 1999 boat with a 1999 175 mercury outboard. The dealer saysthe engine has zero hours because the entire power head was replaced due to an overheating problem. There is only the dealers 60 day warranty. Am I looking at a potential headache? Would I be better off getting a new engine with less power for a comparable price?

sounds fishy. Do you prefer Mercury over Johnson. I'm trying to decide which ot buy i the 115, 125, 130HP range. Any thoughts?

Mike, OMC and Merc both warantee any replacement parts for 1 year. Most engine rebuilders match that on their labor. I'd make that a deal breaker. Fine out who rebuilt it and contact them. If it's the same place that you buying it from I'd tell them to step up to the plate with a full year or walk. Dunk
