Is there a straight forward way of getting more hp out of this engine without spending a fortune? It is mounted on a boat that is rated up to 200 hp.
/Sibelius

The 135 product closely resembles the 150...but you will not notice much of a difference even if you were to turn it into a 150hp.

TMD

you may be able to do a exhaust tuner conversion as seen on screem&Fly.com. Not sure though check it out.

Thanks for the tips. The engine is on a hull with a sharp v angle so to get it to plane more power would help. I reallise that 15 hp extra would not make a big difference but 60hp would!? It seems like trading it for a 200 and accept the cost is the best alternative.
Thank you
/Sibelius

I believe the later 135's are a 2.0L versus 150's and up being a 2.5L. You could change just the powerheads but some modification might be required to match up the exhaust ports or new adapter plate. I'm know lots can be to the 2.0L but unless it is a light boat, the extra displacement would serve you better.
My opinion on tuners is that they don't do a whole lot unless you have radical porting.

Do you use a hydrofoil stabliser("whale tail")? This will help tremendously when getting on plane!!! Good luck and let us know.
CU

--------------------------------------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!!

Horsepower is not always the answer, infact sometimes a bigger motor will make the boat perform worse. The hull is realy the main determining factor in boat performance, for example; a flat bottom boat would never run as fast as a V bottom, regardless of horse power.

Sounds like you would like to plane easier, accellerate faster, and get more top speed. You have any number of options, props, hydrofoils, trim tabs and smart tabs.

The real name of the game is to make the boat hull as efficient as possible, then go for the best match in props.

Look at an airplane, they hull (wings and tail) changes to suite the conditions ( speed, load, wind current, power)but the motor position never changes.

What part of your boat hull changes to suite your constantly changing conditions. Water is a liquid, and air is a liquid.

A hydrofoil will help you out of the hole a little, but since it does not change (like flaps on a wing) the lift increases after you are on plane and pushes the bow down which will result in a loss of top speed. This is not so common on boats that do less than 30mph as the speed is not enough to crate the extra lift, but if your boat is a 40 mph boat it will run bow heavy even with triming the motor.

Remember the prop is there to propell - not to change boat attitude.

Trim tabs change the hull shape to suite the conditions. Some are opperated from the helm, and Smart Tabs are self regulating. Check this site forums for more info.

If you put Smart tabs on the boat you will think you have added the extra 75 HP you were looking for, and with a reduction in fuel consumption not an increase.
