I bought a boat that needed the engine rebuilt( it spun a rod bearing). Me and my boss rebuilt the engine all new parts except crank and rods. Had the crank and rod machined and sized. rebuilt the engine using a volvo penar repair book. I installed the engine and had it alligned. I took the boat out for the first time to day and ran it for close to 1 hour. Runing about 55psi at 3/4 throttle and 35-40psi at idle. It ran great. Driving the boat back to the ramp, I lost oil pressure and lost engine power. I was almost to the ramp so I gave it 3/4 power on the shifter and it was running at 20% engine power (guessing) and about 18psi oil pressure and at idle there is no oil pressure the engine was then making a clattering noise so I turned it off. The engine felt hot I never looked at the temp gauge but I know I lost the oil pressure and lost engine power before the engine noise started. I paddled the rest of the way and took boat home and parked it. The rpm gauge was broke so maybe I ran the engine a little to hard breaking it in. I ran the rpm up and down the first hour, never to long in one spot. Could someone tell me what they think is wrong with my boat ???

If the lifters were making noise, oil pump would be suspect.
Level on the dip stick?

Drain your oil over a strong magnet afterwards, look for metal particals or metal pieces on the magnet. Was the oil pump new? Did you look at the oil after the loss of pressure? Is there water in the oil? Fuel in the oil?
You really didn't look at the temp. gauge?

oil pump was new and making good oil pressure the first hour before i lost oil pressure and power. I parked the boat at home and did not look at the engine I was to upset to look at it. I have not looked at the oil yet I will when I get home tonight after work. I not sure why but I did not look at the temp gauge when it started to run bad, so I have no idea what the temp was.
