Ahoy, Firefish. The Johnny loop charged twin 50 is one of the great engines of the past forty years or so. Unfortunately, 1999 was not their best year for build quality or quality control. Get some service history on it. If it has been well cared for any problems should be fixed by now.

It is carbureted.

Good luck,

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

You do not want a 16ft its to small. I started out with my first boat a 15ft mirrorcraft sold that and purchased a 17ft fiberglass starcraft with a 80hpmerc. I finally got rid of that one and purchased my dream boat a 170fishmaster starcraft Alum boat which I just love. Its light weight and is going to hold its value along time.

I'm afraid I disagree with My New Fishmaster on boat size. Size is a matter of taste and what you want to do with a boat. I've got a 16' fg boat with a 55hp and it suits me fine for all kinds of salt water use. That much horsepower matches the boat well and I'd rather be in mine than a 17' aluminum in a storm or trying to plow through a 3' chop. My maintenance costs stay low on a 2cyl outboard and if I go larger I'd need a truck to tow it. Go for it Firefish
