I'm considering buying this outboard to replace the 1995 Johnson 115 currently on my boat. ( I lost a cylinder).
How does the 1999 60 degree block and optical ignition compare to the old school 90 degree flywheel configuration for reliability?
I have heard mixed reviews on late 90's OMC engines.

they are good motors..just stay away from the fitches..the Ocean pros are becoming legendary in my opinion they are great motors..I by pass the oil injection on all of mine if they are not already done and premix my oil, then you know its in there.

These are great engines ,lots of grunt and good top end and sipps a little less fuel. The V-4 ficht had very little problems, the problem motors where the 97-98 150/175hp and the 97-99 200/225 V-6's

I thought all of the fichts were problems..good to know that it is limited to only a few years and Models..that info will come in handy one day...so you would say that other than the problem years and models listed fichts are good motors or would you still stay with carbs if you had a choice???
