Last time I had my boat out the T/T was working fine. I went out to get it ready to go the other day and the T/T was real slow (seemed like a low charge on the Batt.) I charged it overnight and it was worse the next morning. The boat started and ran fine so I know the battery is OK but when it was running the T/T did not seem to work at all. When I got it back on the trailer, all it would do is bump up/down a bit each time I hit the button. I do not see any signs of hydraulic fluid leaking and the lift shafts appear to still be smooth (no rust). I also do not hear the motor running when I hit the button, all I get is a single bump then nothing until I release and push the button again. (Same with the motor side mounted buttons and the throttle mounted buttons)

How do I tell if it is just a bad motor, relay or if the whole unit needs to be replaced? Or do you have any thoughts/guesses on what the issue might be or where to start looking?

Thanks in advance - I really do not want to drop a bunch of cash on this motor if I can avoid it.

ps it has only been run in fresh water.

seeing it won't got up or down, i'm thinking motor. by pass the solenoid, see if the motor runs. can you hear the solenoid click?

I get a single "bump" (up/down) and the motor moves a little bit (less than an inch at the bottom of the foot)

is it easy to replace the motor? Disconnect the 2 wires and remove the 3 or 4 screws then reverse.

Scott, i've been lucky and never had to do it. go here and look up your motor. you can see all the parts and parts list. "http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/Accessories/Literature/?popup=true"

Would I be better off just replacing the motor first to see if that will fix the problem.

Scott the first thing you should do is check the manual release valve to ensure it is tight and secure. Second rest the motor on the trail locks and check the oil resevoir level. If it is topped up, determine if the electric motor is running. If the trim motor is not running, check the battery and connections. Hit the trim up button, does the solenoid click? If it does, remove the motor from manifold, if it still does not run, replace the motor or have it rebuilt, if the motor now runs, check the pump, which is below the motor. Now back up a couple steps, if the motor is operating you will need a pressure gauge to determine where the blockage is, possibly in the pump control piston or a valve, or an internal passage. Try cycling the motor as best you can to remove any trapped air, it is self bleeding. Then try removing the manual release snap ring, remove the valve core, and check the o ring and valve seal. The motors can be fairly expensive , so you dont want to throw money at it. If you do want a replacement, I have ordered off this site many times, trustworthy and cheapest I can find. Good Luck, let us know what you find.
