1999 Johnson 150 Fuel Pressure Problem

I recently purchased a Stratos with a 1999 Johnson 150. I have a couple questions about it.<br /><br />1) Last night I ran about 3 miles from the ramp, fished for a while, and tried to start it to move to another area. It would not start . I checked the bulb and it was not tight. I pumped it up and it got tight but the motor would not start. I pulled the fuel line off the motor to check for cracks to see if it was getting air in the line. Didn't see any. Put it back together and could not get the bulb to pump back tight again. We finally got it started by me pumping the bulb as fast as I could and my buddy choking it and turning the key while pushing the hot foot down to the bottom. Obviosly something isn't right. Any ideas?<br /><br />2) The motor says it has a Optical Ignition System... What does that mean?<br /><br />3) The motor says it is loop charged. What does that mean?<br /><br />Thanks for the help in advance!<br />James

Yo, SW,<br />Welcome to the iboats forum.<br />I gather that after you pumped the bulb furiously, choked the livin' caca out of the engine and pushed the hot foot through the floor to get the engine started, it ran o-k. If this is true, I would look for a problem between the fuel supply and the engine. Places like the anti-siphon valve, fuel tank vent, check valves in the bulb and/or air leaks in the fuel line somewhere. I think you were looking in the right direction.<br /><br />1. OIS = An optical divice that tells each plug when it's suppose to fire.<br /><br />2. Loop Charged = This is the method the fuel/air mixture is brought into the cylinder, compressed, detonated and discharged (exhausted).<br />An excellant design.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Hooty,<br />Thanks for the reply... you are right, after all that the motor ran fine. I need to have it looked at though because I really do not want to get caught away from the ramp and that happen again. <br />Thanks again,<br />James
