1999 Johnson 150 beeper question

My boat has the lights in the tach for the oil and heat. How do I test the beeper ?

That late model motor should have a self test. The buzzer should make a short beep when you turn the key on.

When I turn on the key ( but not starting it) the 4 lights come on. Then they go off one at a time then I get the beep.
I may have to rewire the battery switch. I have one position for off then battery one and battery two then both batterys. Whe it is turned to off I still have power at the ignition switch. I thought everything would be dead in the off position.
