Ok Honda dudes. Can you help me out? I posted someting like this several month ago, but things have changed a little.

First, I have only owned and worked on Johnson/Evinrudes and Mercs, so I am not familiar with my Dad's motor. Here is the deal. I am here in Florida, my Dad's pontoon is on a lake in Kentucky. He can't get a mechanic to come and work on his motor any longer because he lives way out in the sticks. Guess who gets to work on it?

The motor runs perfect, and it has VERY LITTLE time on it. My Dad is the kind of guy that will get a years worth of fishing with a single tank of gas. Anyway, it has never had the impeller replaced, nor has the oil been changed in a while. The lower unit oil must be changed also. The plugs will need to be changed as well. Am I missing anything crutial?

The boat is in the water, but a lift is available to get her up and out of the way. I will need to pull the lower unit (from the waterline) with another boat behind her. Am I asking for problems? How difficult is pulling the unit compared to the ones I am used to? Also, how much problem is sucking out the oil fom the crankcase? What type and how much oil will I need to refill?
How about plugs? What type will I need?

Before I leave, i will try to get a manual for the motor to help me out a little. I am just trying to get my head together for the task.. the I Boats forum has saved my butt more than once, so I figured i could start here.

Thanks to everyone.

PS. The Honda is a SWEET running little motor. i swear, you can't hear the thing run, and it uses virtually no gas compared to my new Merc. 150 Optimax. I am impressed.

I think that Manual will help you out a LOT, TD Maker.

Honda Marine website in the, "owners" drop down tab will get you a printable owners manuel. That same site will give you all the online ordering info for a shop repair manuel.

The owners manuel will tell you mostly what you're asking. The repair manuel will tell you how to do it.

Lower unit removal pretty straight forward - disconnect the shift rod joint (12mm spanners) might need to drop into reverse gear to do this properly. Undo the 4 14mm hex bolts around the cavitation plate, then remove the trim tab (12mm deep socket) and then the further bolt revealed behind the trim tab (12mm deep socket again). Slide the lower unit off. Impeller is then obvious.
