I just bought a boat that had been a leftover 99. It came with a 1999 Evinrude Ficht 150. It has less than 10 hours on the 150. Well I took it home and decided to go for a ride with the family. It runs great and it's very quiet with no stinky oil smell. We really enjoyed the ride. Well the smile soon disappeared off me face when I put it back on the trailer. I noticed oil all over the back of the boat and running down the motor. When I got home I removed the motor cover. Two stroke oil was leaking and made a big mess. Cleaned it up then ran the motor to locate the leak.Thought it would be simple but no such luck.I found the oiler PDS was leaking badly. Well I bought the boat knowing it had no warrenty on the ficht.Called the dealer to hear them say it was a non serviceable part.well I disassembled the oiler pds to find the top o-ring was dried out.I installed new o-ring.That cured leak but when i tightened the assembly into the pds housing i went to tight a caused a hair crack in the housing.Called dealer to find that oiler pds is 530.00.wow! So I told them to order it and the motor is ready to be traded in on a 2003 model with a warrenty. I really loved the way this ficht ran but am scared to buy a new one. After reading the other troubles people had I really wonder if the 2002 or 2003 will be any better. Have they mastered the injection system and are they still using cheap lower units. If so is Johnson the same? Should I stick to a carb. model ? I would like to use the same controls. The 2003 Ficht 150 is around 11,000 dollars and the carb 150 is around 8000.00 One dealer offered me 6300.00 for my ficht on trade. nada say's 7150.00 Should I take the 6300.00 and run ?
