OK.... I say dumb question because before I started to break down my motor I forgot (or should I say didn't know) that I was supposed to pay attention to the direction the "cam pulley" and "crankshaft pulley" where lined up.
What I have noticed is that the "cam pulley" has the smallest little marking on the top of it on one of the teeth. When I turn the "cam pulley" it doesn't seem to line up with any noticable sequence with the four valves.
There aren't any noticable markings on the "crankshaft pulley" but what I did notice is when the "crankshaft key" is facing towards the cylinder case both pistons are compressed all the way also towards the cylinder case.
Which way should these two gears be lined up or what can I do to figure it out? Obviously these two gears run together via the drive belt and I've been told these two gears have to line up a certain way for the motor to run properly.
One major concern of mine is is it possible to damage the motor if I try and run it and these two gear aren't lined up properly? Otherwise I suppose I can try it one way and if its not running good or working at all I can re-adjust the way the gears line up and try again until the motor runs correctly.
Any help would greatly be appreciated!
Thank you!
Steve
