1999 Evinrude 8HP 4 Stroke (E8R4EEM) Crankcase Question?

I noticed on the parts diagram that it's not showing any type of seal or gasket between the two halves of the crankcase. Looking at mine it doesn't look like there ever was one 'cause both halves look clean and shiney. Does this sound right? One of my friends says to use some Loctite gasket replacer stuff but he wasn't too sure about it. Another friend told me it probably didn't have anything because it would interfere with the crankshaft.

Any info would greatly be appreciated!

On the crankcase halves it calls for OMC Gel-Seal II. Product is made by Loc-Tite and should be available at most parts houses.
