Everything seemed fine with this engine and it ran strong. Two hours into my trip propeller seemed to only engage up to about 2800 rpm. When the throttle was pushed harder the rpm's would go up but the boat would not move any faster. Seemed like it was "slipping" and not engaging. Made it back to dock and lifted the engine, everything seemed clear, nothing caught up in propeller or intake although I did run through some seaweed. Put the engine back down and it would not start. This was odd because I replaced the battery two weeks ago. Whatever is going on with the engine, it drained a brand new 750 amp battery in three outings. I know there is a neutral rev limiter (3000 rpm) on this engine and engaged in gear it should not max over 5000 rpm. Apparently, Suzuki made this engine for Evinrude in '99. Could the engine have shut down and sent me home in "limp" mode or "safe" mode ? No engine lights came on at all. Any help would be appreciated very much. Thank You.

Most likely the prop hub is spinning out. Make a reference mark on the prop and on the end of the prop shaft and take a ride. If out of alignment, re-hub the prop or change.

Would like to look at it for you...no charge....if you are close to 32754, USA.

True....it sounds like the prop hub was slipping, but that doesn't explain the no start......
