I have a 1999 DT 150 the motor has always ran very strong it has low hours. Last time I started it at the house before a trip it would crank and idea for a min and cut off it did this twice, i pulled to cover and noticed the ecu smoking bad. You do not have to crank it only turn the key to the on position and it begins to smoke heavily. it ended up burning throw the ignition cell into the fuel injector cell to the point it would no longer crank. I ordered a used ecu that I put on yesterday. the boat fires right up and idels perfect but is doing the same thing with smoking with the key in the on position. I do not want to burn this ecu up as they are expensive. there are no Suzuki techs anywhere near me and I'm at a loss at this point as to how to trace down the problem. I am thinking the ignition switch or maybe the perko switch so i plan on swapping them next also i will be putting the old ecu on to try to trace the problem so i do not kill the new one. Has anyone seen this or have any idea as to what it might be any help is greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

You have a short in that circuit. You will need to trace all the wires looking for a bare spot, or exposed connection/lug. These can be a real PIA, but doable. Look for the obvious first, wires that are touching against the hot motor, wires in the bundle where the steering action causes strain, etc...

Most likely not a short. If you do not have a qualified Suzuki 2-stroke tech in the area then I suggest you purchase a factory service manual and properly diagnose the charging and EFI system.
