Hey guys, new to the board so hopefully someone can help me. I am close to purchasing my first boat in the next month or so and think I have my mind set on a bayliner 3255 avanti.

What I want from a boat is a decent sized space to have friends up for a few beers... a swimming platform for off the back of the boat and something with a bit of kick when I want to have some fun with the engines.

From the research i've done the 3255 does seem to have everything I want from a boat, but I don't want to rely souly on my own research so any advise would be welcome.

I've haggled the owner down to 32k (GBP) (about $47k) - is this a decent price for a 1999 model. They've told me the engine / stern drive need a service, and i'd obviously get a full survey done on the boat before buying.

If someone can suggest a better boat for my needs then i'm all ears!

Did you check NADA.COM for the used boat price? That should give you a ball park idea of what they go for.

Yea had a look just haven't always found it accurate when looking at other boats compared to what some people say.

In regards engine hours, what sort of amount would you want to buy a second hand boat on? I'm assuming like a car, as you get close to 100k on a petrol, you are wary, but 100k on a diesel less so. Is it the same?

The one i've been looking at has 250 hours on the clock, is this classed as average, more than? Too much?

Thanks for that advise, much appreciated.

Today just had an offer on a Larson 254 (year 2000) - but only has a 150hp petrol Penta, so not sure how that performs.

Its a very good offer and its at the marina that I was going to moor at which is rather a draw!

Time will tell I guess! But thanks for the warning :)

Hi guys, I am also new to this site,(today in fact) I too fancy a bayliner 3255 avanti, the one in my sights is nowhere near 32K with twin diesel engines, also 1999 what country is this one you are looking at located, and is it VAT paid or not? for that money.

or is the one that I am looking at expensive at 43k GBP (osmosis free)
