My son is looking at a 1999 Evinrude 8hp 4stroke for his 12 for Smokercraft. I have researched a bit on this motor and it for what I can tell it can be a nice motor but some problems do exist:
_ gasket can be warped letting air into the engine
_ carbs can guy up or need rebuilding (not unique to this or any motor)
_ carb or rebuild kits are no longer available. This seems like a big deal

So my question is, are there other things I should know about this motor and is it something you would buy or stay away from.

Thanks so much

I'd stay away from it. It seems a lot of carb parts for not to old motors are NLA. I haven't checked into what else yet.

Im not completely sue, but I believe Suzuki had some part in making these motors, correct me if I am wrong, I know they did make some Evinrude/Johnson small outboards. Like he said, I would stay away from it.

COnsider the 2016 model evinrudes. 8hp and 9.9 (or 9.8?) same production from tohatsu line.
