1999 4.3 Mercruiser won't start

Blew up my engine on Mothers Day. Got a 4.3 Vortec block and changed everything over. Rotor on #1 with #1 cyl TDC. 12v into and out of coil and to Dist cap but no spark to plugs.

Run through the TB-V troubleshooting chart, see what that comes up with....

Which stroke are you on for #1 TDC? You could have the distributor 180* out.

I meant the compression or the exhaust. You can find out by removing the #1 spark plug and holding your finger on the plug hole while rotating the engine. When air comes rushing out of the hole then you're on the compression stroke, and when you get to TDC your rotor should point to #1.

Being a 4 stroke engine it has 2 TDC point per cycle. One is the power stroke, which is when you want the spark to fire. The other is at valve overlap, and having the spark fire there is useless, and the engine will not run....
