1999 225 Mercury EFI no compression on middle cylinder port sidd

Running WOT the engine died. When I restarted it, there was an obvious knock in the engine so I shut it down and got towed in. Today I tested the compression in the cylinders to find the middle cylinder port side of the engine has zero compression. Any ideas what the extent of the damage may be? The engine still fires right up and runs normal with the exception of the knocking sound (and I'd assume the piston being dead).

Don't run it any more until you find out what is wrong. The motor could come apart. A start would be to pull the head and see what's going on.

Sorry but motor is hurt but I wouldnt put any money in it.....
