Hi,

I've got a 99 225 EFI outboard on my 21ft Stratos Pro Elite, that gets a pathetic 1.5 MPG. Thats at a cruising speed, not wide open. Its slowly getting worse. The guy I bought it from said it got around 4mpg when he had it. It was getting 2mpg about a month ago. Now its at an astonishing 1.5mpg. It runs awesome. Starts great, will turn about 6500 RPM at wide open, but will only go about 70mph (GPS). I don't run it at 6500 RPM EVER!! But it will turn it, if I hammer into it. It has had work done to it. It was an old racing motor when it was younger. Its getting about 275 hp. I've got a 24pitch 4 blade prop on it. So if you see anything wrong with whats above, please give me somewhere to start. I've had it apart to the reeds (because of a rattling noise when I got into it or let off the gas) but it still rattles.

PLEASE! There has to be someone that has an idea whats wrong with this motor. It runs great. Runs a little rich on oil mixture just to make sure it doesn't burn itself up. And its got 300hp PowerPacks on it. Just to make sure its burning all the gas that goes into it. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks

Your boat will consume about 22.5 gallons per hour at speeds nearing wide open throttle. And vary from there.

If you have become comfortable running at speed, chances are that throttle has been getting pushed further, for longer than it did when you got it.

As for any other MPG reference they can vary so much, even on the same boat and conditions, they are not used.
