Hello, i recently purchused a 15 hp mercury tiller outboard. I took it out for the first time and I broke down due to too mach gas filling the carb. I took the carb apart and found my float craked, and filled with gasoline, so i drained the float, and sealed it with jb weld. I tested it today and it did the same thing again. If i take off the gas line, the motor runs fine until the gas runs out of the carb, but as soon as i plug the line back in it stalls. Before, the the motor ran really solid (idled great, shifted smooth, etc.). does anyone know what else could be cuasing the problem other then the float? all the gaskets are fine so thats not the problem. has anyone ever had the same scenario? any replys would be greatly appreciated. :)

Many possibilities.... You could have a float valve stuck open. Be sure to clean the seat and the tip of the needle valve thoroughly and then try to make sure that it blocks the fuel flow when it is supposedly closed. I'm a little skeptical about repairing the float with JB weld. The alcohol in the fuel could compromise that repair. Also, the repair probably changed the weight of the float, making it sink further into the bowl even if it isn't still leaking. Good luck!

...you can also rebuild your fuel pump very cheaply. Good luck!
