1999 150hp ox66 cuts in and out over 2k rpm

my 150hp saltwater yammie runs good for a while, then starts lurching at about 2000 rpm. wont accelerate past 2000. it revs then falls to nothing,then revs etc. i am going to finally change the original plugs. they have deposits. what else could i check? thanks.

Hi, I have the same problem with my Suz.dt140 (1988) runs fine for a while and then drops to abaut half power. I think my problem is the carbs. or false air in the fuel system? maybe you also have to clean the carbs... any other suggestions out there?<br /><br />-Glenn

yes it runs good until you pull back to neutral. then when i try to acclerate it cuts out at 2000 rpm just like you turned the key off ,then on ,then off..

Check the oil tank under the engine cowl. If it is below a certain level, the engine kicks back to run below 2000. Also, the engine could be overheating or the sensor is sending an overheat signal. I doubt it is your spark plugs.

thanks! i do remember the tank under the cover looked low. i think there is an emergency switch on the back of the motor that fills the tank.
