I am having trouble with my 115 Yahmaha. I took it in to have a tune up done, because it was skipping a little after a long time idling. After the tune up, motor still not running right. Shop said they put wrong sparkplugs in-after replaced sparkplugs-ran fine one trip. Needless to say-they said it was the stator-they replaced it-while testing it out they said motor died-replaced the powerpack. Finally got boat back-took out first time-boat seems to skip once it gets up on plane and it you idle to long it wants to die out. Going crazy-any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

First off, the electronics on the Yamaha's are bulletproof. I doubt if the stator had any problems and the only problems I've seen with the CDI units are with the older ones and they like to drop a cylinder. It sounds like you may have either a weak coil that's fouling out after extended idling or you have a dirty carb that's making one or more cylinder run too rich. Also if you're running in salt water, check the rear of the engine block for corrosion or salt trails. I've solved some of these problems with a simple bath and letting them sit in the hot sun to dry.
