I need help fast. I am working on a 1998 Yamaha Waverunner 760. The problem that I am having is pretty strange. When I hit the start button sometimes the engine will crank over. But when it cranks by the button it will not start. I can crank it for a while and finally it will hit like it is going to start and then it will not crank at all after that. The soledoid wont even click. I can just the starter solenoid and it will start right up. It looks as if the spart is weaker when I crank by start button. I have tested resistance and all seems fine. I am very mechanically incline but this is my first jet ski to work on and I am doing it blind (not manual or wiring diagram) so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

clean all your connections and the main ground at the engine block from the battery, you may need a new solenoid but you probably just have dirty connections somewhere in that wiring.

the start button is known to go bad. if it cranks over easily f you cross over the solenoid but it wont do it when you hit the starter you probably have a switch thats going bad. Also make sure the little key that slides under the kill button is the right one. Some people buy the kawi ones which are slightly slimmer than the Yamaha ones.

I have tested all the switches and they all are working fine. I have no click out of the solenoid. When I cross the solenoid to get it started, the gauges to not work when it is running. Does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram?

My 97 GP 1200 acts EXACTLY like this when it is lock mode. Make sure it is in start mode.

How do you know what code to use? Mine wont start without the code and I lost the manual. Please help. I have a GP1200 also and it is in lock mode. It wont over or anything. When I press the mode button it asks for a four digit code using A, B, and C. Please help.

Take the seat off and find the blue connector in the handlebar wiring harness. Unplug it for 30-60 seconds. Replug it and press the mode button. Enter the code you want to use. It should go into start mode. I keep mine in start mode all of the time cause it's just easier. However, anytime you disconnect the battery it will go back into lock mode. Let us know how this works out.

Ooops, I think you have to hit the mode button again after you enter the code. Sorry bout that.
