I am looking at a 1998 bayliner trophy c/c. It has a 120 force motor. The seller is asking $10,900, what does anybody think?

Length?
Saltwater motor?

Condition is everything.
Compare it to other similar boats and what do you find pricewise, locally.

Sopunds decent if it is about a 18 to 20 footer. I just picked up a 1991 23 with twin 120's for $8000, trailer included. Its leaving Miami today, so I should be able to pick it up the second week of May. Can't wait! Back to your question, www.nada.com is a great reference for prices of used boats. without knowing the length, I really couldn't tell you.

I Own a 1999 120 hp Force on a 22'Trophy Walkaround. It's a great engine. I have almost 500 hrs of salt water use. It runs perfect. I'll give you the advice I received. Don't run it at Max RPM any more than needed. I keep my RPM's less than 4600.

I like the boat a lot!!!! I dont like the motor a lot!!!!I would only consider it if the motor was better than new and then I would second guess myself.Charlie

Re: 1998 trophy with force

my dealer told me not to buy a Force..... I was always under impresison Force, was a Merc manufactured o/b - he said, it's backed by Merc, but made by a japanese manufacturer..... not sure if this is actually true or not. Usually, japanese made items are nothign but highest quality, but not what he said.

Re: 1998 trophy with force

Force outboards are the ols Chrysler outboards, Bayliner Marine got them and changed the name to Force by US Marine, When Brunswick got Bayliner, Mercury (Unfortunatly) got stuck with Force. The motors are old technology, Mercury changed the lower unit and added updated electronics, but any other motor rated at the same hp will just walk away from a force powered boat.

Just to give you a comparison.

I had a 1969 Merc 1250 (Crank Rated 125) on a 17' Chris Craft Cavalier (Not the most efficiant hull but a good ride) and I had a goy in a 88 or 89 Bass Boat (Type) with a 125 Force on it ask me to race him, Basically, I was at about 30 when he finally got up on plane, And wasn't really able to catch up to me. And my motor was 20 years old at the time. He might have had 2-4 mph more on top end, but I still got to the other end of the lake before he did.

Craig
