The engine wont idle down at times from the throttle control. If I disconnect the cable from the carb it will idle normally. With the cable connected I have to physically push the linkage closed for curb idle. whats the problem and how do I fix it?

welcome aboard.

sounds like you need a slight adjustment of the throttle cable.

Marine throttle cables must be adjusted so as to 'push' the throttle closed it idle. The trunion anchoring the throttle cable housing needs to be adjusted away from the carb along the cable housing so to give a slight pressure holding the carb linkage closed at idle. Not a lot, just a little so to make sure to always idle down. Too tight can cause shifting problem in the control box.
