I'm looking at buying a used 1998 Sea Ray Signature Series 210 with a 220 HP 5.0 Mercruiser. What should I look for when I go to inspect the boat?

From the pictures and description I have the boat runs great but the interior is a bit rough with a few holes and signs of cracking in some of the seats.

If the inside needs to be re-upholstered how expensive can that be?

Anyway thing I need to know about this year and model of Sea Ray? Is the 5.0 enough power for this boat? I have heard Sea Ray boats can be on the heavy side.

You should ask what maintenance has been done and when the water pump impellar was last changed. Also make sure there are no weak spots in the floor. Definitly tell them you want a sea trial. That will tell you alot. When you have it in the water make sure there is no water leaking in bilge anywhere. Lift up hatch and look at everything while boat is running. You never know what your getting with a used boat but, Sea Ray is a good buy if it's been well kept and maintenanced when it should. Yes they are a little heavy. I'm not sure how much interior would cost to be redone but that could be a negotiating factor in the sale price. Good Luck.

I would think that a 98 boat would not have bad interior, my last boat I had for 17 years and the interior was still good, no holes, no tears, no cracks, to me if the interior is that bad I would definitely want to know the maintenance that had been performed. I know things wear from use but to me that boat should not need the interior redone this soon. What was the care given to the rest of the boat. The 5.0L is plenty of engine for that boat. Get a professional surveyor to check it for you, the cost will be worth it in the end.

Sounds like the owner left it sit out all last summer with out a cover.

Has Sea Ray also used marine quality wood? If not when did they start?
