I was wanting to knw what I could do to get a lil more speed out of my motor I have it on a 17ft Lowe Jhon boat and it won't plane the boat out with just one person I have adjusted the trim every which way and just won't do it. Thanks for any input and what ouch prop would be best for it I do not think it is the prop that came with the motor

We need your actual model -- year is irrelevant on Tohatsu outboards. You need a tachometer to see your actual WOT RPM. Then you will know which prop to try. Also, you may need to adjust transom height (not trim) to get the optimal thrust. You will want to trim so that the motor is dead vertical at speed, applying the most thrust in direct line with the boat movement. Luis (Sea Rider) has a full description of how to do that.

Paul has described the fne tuning procedure 101% clear, works awesome, can take the max out of any under powered OB if it's healthy and in proper working order. Which pitch is current prop ? Is it doing its homework right ? Ideal would be to perform a prop hub slip to determine that, know how to do it ? From there can look forward to make that nice 18 to perform as a champ...

Need a nice tach, don't invest on those cheapo induction tachs that don't have spark adjustable capability. Go for a Hardline HR-8061-2, are well priced, check Iboats, Amazon for them.

Remove prop, turn up side down, draw a straight line across middle sub as in pic, re install prop, go for a wot spin lightly loaded

for 1 minute, remove prop, if line has moved away from center hub, prop is kaputt, buy a new one if current one was a good performer.
