Hello,

I have purchased 2 1998 Mercury Jet Skis from the original owner in 2006.
Hopefully someone in this forum may be an enthusiast. I am looking for answers in reference to purchasing parts and perhaps a place that I may be able to find an owners manual for the skis. They are built tough and they seem to have been built to be put into production. But, they were not put in to production. I am not certain of the actual number of jet skis that Mercury built in 1998 when they built the prototypes. The reason for this inquiry is that I have been trying to sell the skis for 4 months and the same question asked is that whether or not it would be easy or hard to replace parts. I have been told by mechanics that Mercury cut a 2 stroke 6 cylinder motor to make it a 2 stroke 3 cylinder motor to put in the skis. PLEASE HELP!

Do you still have your Jet Skis. I am looking for information on the one I purchased a couple years back. It runs great, but a storm blew it onto the rocks and the reverse cup and the speedo broke of the back and I need replacements. Any ideas out there

Re: 1998 Mercury Jet Ski Prototypes

Mercury Jetskis, or Mercury Performancecraft were built in 1997-98. They pulled the plug in February of 1998, after a couple hundred prototypes were constructed for market research and testing. Most of them were sold off to employees, while a few of them are on display at various dealerships and merc facilities. No Service literature or manuals were published and only and handful of copies of owners/service manuals are floating around... Parts are hard to come by as all of the parts were never released for individual sale. SO if something breaks be prepared to improvise.. The haul ID number is posted on the back (probably starting with an "MPW"...) A freeze plug underneath the sparkplug holes will have the serial number for the block stamped into it (probably starting with a "0G......").

I have a pair of these! The out drive shaft has a place to add oil behind the engine. It got water in it and seized (bad seal). Anyone know how I can remove the glue that holds the out drive assy to the ski?

Start a topic about your motors and ask questions there
