1998 mercury 60hp oil pump removal questions

Hi everyone, i was hoping someone could confirm im doing this right. So far I've got the tank, and oil pump removed. My question is do they make a cap that will fit over where the pump was or am I better off putting the pump housing back on, minus the drive pin?

In the picture I know I need to put a straight barb connector instead of the T but what about the fitting that is coming out of the fuel pump, cap off or do I need to put in an elbow connector?

Well when I did my 90 2 stroker, I came home from an outing one day and with the engine in that configuration, I undid 3 screws and one hose to get access to the drive gear/shaft (sticking out of the pump)...pulled it out, no other parts visible, stuck the pump back in, reinserted the hose and 3 screws and used it for another several years before I sold it and bought a larger rig. I did write myself a precautionary note on the deck adjacent to the fill cap.....Don't forget to add 1 pt. of oil to 6 gallons of gas.

If I were to remove the tank and all, I'd just cut the hose off between the tank and pump and put a plug in it.....a wood screw of the proper size would do....after I pulled the gear and shaft. The alarm wires would just unplug the ones from the tank, there in the engine and not worry about it.

Thanks for the reply, In my picture, does the line running up from the connector on the side of fuel pump serve a purpose when the oil pump isn't attached? Can I just cap the bottom of that T connector? Thanks again.

An elegantly simple way is to take the discharge from the pump and feed that to a ---T---that you install on the oil pump intake.----It will circulate the oil.-----You won't lose any parts.----Be simple to put it back in service should you decide to sell.

Hey guys. Hoping you can help me out with this one. The picture i attached shows my attempt at disabling the fuel pump. When I go to start the engine I have gas leaking out of a small hole on right side of lower unit (see picture). Any ideas? Thanks.

I also spliced a piece of hose between the two T connectors that run into the fuel pump, maybe this is where I went wrong. There is no drive shaft for a fuel pump.----So why are you disabling the fuel pump.----Just curious.

Not sure what you call it, but the gear behind the oil pump. I want to disable as its just as easy for me to premix and not have to worry if I'm getting the correct mixture and also the possibility of pump failure.

What you are looking for is to block the oil injection. Plenty of videos om YT and two or three ways to do it the easiest is just to bloc the input of oil to the fuel pump, reroute what comes out of the oil pump back into the oil reservoir.
Question concerning the gas pouring trought weep hole at the lower unit - do you see gas pissing out of your carbs...?
