Is the water pump replacement the same as on a 2 stroke engine?

Don't have your s/n but this should be the service manual for your engine:

Scroll down to the bottom and select "Gear Housing" for the model you have and you will find the procedure.

067355661 comes up as:

120 H.P./2.5L140 H.P./3.0L R/MR/ALPHA ONE therefore something is wrong as the s/n definitely does not look like a 1998 s/n.

The s/n on the older engines was on a data plate, seen on the front of the engine clamp and swivel bracket assembly and on the newer engines as in this link:

Also on the powerhead you should be able to find a plug like this:

Guess I need glasses!!! Serial number is 0G735661. Thought the G was a 6 ha. Still have no idea what model number it is or where to find it.Do you think the link you sent me will still work for this serial number? Thanks again for your help. Taylor

That's better, it comes up as model:

1F50412UD MERCURY 1998 50

and the service manual and parts listing in post #2 are applicable.
