i have a 1998 Mariner 75HP and when i went out last the alarm started going off but then it would shut up then start again but as it was goin off it sounded retarded like it was defective. it would change tones and stuff. so i would like to know how to test it and how to disconnect the oil injection to be on the safe side

Hi Black betty, did you find the problem with your alarm on engine as my 75 mariner is doing the exact same thing and sound after 15 mins of travel in water. thanks:confused:

BB, the only oil alarm on your motor is just to detect low oil level in the tank. There is no alarm for an oil pump failure.

It is fairly common on older motors for the float to stick or sink which triggers the alarm. Disconnecting the sensor wire at the bottom of the oil tank will fix the alarm problem.

The really bad bottom line is that there is no way to tell if your motor has an oil pump failure until the motor sags while running. By then, it's probably too late!

Check this parts view

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...11211&bnbr=100&bdesc=Oil+Injection+Components

Remove the driven gear, item 18, the oil system no longer works.

Remove the tank and the lines to and from the pump, cap off all holes/hoses.

Religously pre-mix all fuel 50 : 1 with TCW-3 two stroke oil, remember to flush the lines to the motor AFTER mixing your fuel, the existing fuel in the line from the tank is straight fuel, no oil.

Done.
