This is my first time to the site, looks very insiteful. Below is a list of symtoms and what I know/ don't know about my motor. Any advice would be much appreciated.

1998 Johnson Ocean Runner
2 stroke, oil injected

This is my 8th season with the motor and never had a problem. I have had it out about 9 times this year and it has started and run great. Last time out I was at about 70% throddle and it shut off. No alarms, no spuddering, just instantly shut off. It is not seased, as it will now crank and crank but will not fire.

I did not think to check it when it happended, but tonight I went to the boat and the safety lanyard was pulled off/fell off. I thought that would be it but I put it back in place and no change. The motor does the same thing whether the lanyard is on or off, it will crank but not fire. If the boat is in gear it will not crank (as it shouldn't)

I pulled each plug and cranked but saw no sparks. It is getting fuel as it spits unburned out the spark plug holes. All fuses look good, all harness connections look good.

QUESTIONS:

Should the motor crank without the layard engaged?
Is this in the control box or in the motor?
How do I further diagnos this?

I NEED TO GET OFF THE DOCK ASAP
THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER!!!
