i just bought a 1998 johnson 115 it has a warm running compresion readings of 90 to 100 psi across the board and will die on take off accellerator pump I assume? I will go through the carbs this weekend but should I replace the rings and hone the block before the rings break or will it just continue to ware normally it has fule pump change to run mix so no oil "should not" be and issue, Thanks

The compression sounds normal for that engine. You may find the engine will run/idle better if you run some Bombardier Engine Tuner through the engine every year or so. Sound like you may have a carb problem. An overhaul of the carbs may resolve your running problems. Be sure to remove all the jets and inspect them for restriction and clean the carb body passages wtih an aerosol carb cleaner. Since the engine is new to you, consider replacing the water pump impeller. It's a good preventative maintenance practice-esp on any engine with unknown repair history.

agree 100%, those are really easy carbs to do. pay attention to high speed jets and ports. also install water/fuel separating filter, or change the existing filter on it.

What size boat? I'd be happy if I could get 34 out of my 115.
