Intermittent issue that seems to happen at the worst times.

It's loosing all spark on occasion. When the motor is running it will cut out momentarliy and then pick right back up. However, the real issue comes when this happens during ignition. There is no spark - until of course, I get home and start to look into it and it will fire up every time.

My initial thought was that this was related to the kill switch possibly shorting out. I temporarly disconnected it, with no effect. I've looked through the wiring harness and there don't appear to be any areas that are loose or shorting out.

Next thoughts are to replace the wiring harness or the power pack. Seems odd to me that a power pack would have an intermittent issue like this - don't those usually work or not work? There also doesn't seem to be a heat related pattern as this has happened at near freezing temps.

Am I overlooking something obvious here? :/

Re: 1998 Intruder 150 - intermittent issue

- check the shift interupter wires/switch.

- it could be your stator not delivering enough voltage to your pack and optical sensor.
- or may be your sensor is bad, dirty
- may be your pack isnt grounding.

like "just in time" said,
get a manual and start testing stator resistance and short to ground.

lot of obvious things to look at.

Thanks guys I've got the manual and will start stepping through the components.

I've ruled out the shift interupter.
