I have ordered the manual. till then does anyone know what kind of Ohms I should get on primary side and secondary side of coil. Can I measure the voltage from cdi? to coil.

The most common ignition failure with this hardy engine is coroded sensor pickups at the cam pulley.Easy fix, sand the contacts and see if things improve.Checking voltage output from the cdi unit will require a dva adaptor for the volt meter you are using and not something that is readilly out there.Keep in mind that these units offer up very weak spark when you are pulling them over and ignition failures are rare.

I hve a similar motor and thought I had no spark until I brought it into a dark area (garage) found out I do have spark.

Re: 1998 Honda bf9.9 no spark.

Thanks guys. I did try turning over in the Dark and there was nothing. I have got the manual now and have been doing resistance tests. I believe my meter is not good enough for some of these so I'll bring a fluke home from work on monday. I believe It will have the peak dva on it. whats the best way to test the cdi then? I tried measuring voltage to the ignition coil primary side and got nothing while turning it over???

I'll keep at when i bring the other meter home.

FYI. I have done resistance tests on the ignition charge coil, ignition coil, pulsar coil and ignition kill switch.
All within spec. I have found spark though but its only while I move the CDI around. I will look for bad wires and loose connections tonight.
