We have a 1998 Force 90 that has the starter problem of the bendix gear not engaging (somewhat common from searching the forum).

This rig has sat idle for several years at a time (either on trailer or in slip).
I'm planning on buying a new Arco 5393 starter along with a new solenoid for insurance (SW295).
I'll take the old starter and clean up along with greasing the bushing and keep old starter and solenoid for emergency spares if needed.

Is Arco a good brand for starter and solenoid?

Other general questions:
- Is there an online source for a service manual for this '98 Force 90?
- We're missing the spare hand starting rope. Where can I get (emergency backup) and in reality is a 90 hp outboard really able to pull started?

Re: 1998 Force 90 - starter / solenoid ?

Arco is good.

No online manuals available that I can find.
Get a factory manual off ebay, or a Clymer Force repair manual from the web.

Yes you can rope start your motor.
Kind of difficult with no battery power as the fuel enrichment valve (choke) won't work.

Don't know if the motor came with a rope. I know some did not.
Any 3/6" rope with a knot on one end, and a wooden t handle on the other end should work.
