1998 bf90 spitting at low speeds

I have a 1998 honda bf90 motor seems to spit at lower speeds and runs fine if given a touch more gas any ideas?

what do you mean by "spit" ?<br />is the idle rough, and how many rpm's <br />does it smooth out at ?

It idles rough the spitting could be a light backfire I have read other postings and I am going to replace the slow jets and go from there. Engine sat for a long time before I got it and carbs where gummed up.
