1998 40 hp force

I have a 1998 40 HP force OB engine, When I run it awhile it quits and when it cools off it start up again. What could be wrong? Thanks Jack

1. Is it over heating?

2. Do you have an over heating alarm?

3. Is it showing a good flow of cooling water exiting the engine?

4. Have you replaced your water pump?s impeller in the last few years?

5. Does it have good power indicating it?s probably not tune-up related?

A guess. When warm metal expands, maybe creating a ground that opens again when cool. Check for worn wiring.

It could be a bad stator. This is located just under the flywheel.

I had to replace mine a few years ago on a '96 40 hp Force.
