1998 25hp Johnson mount bushing question

Hi, My 25hp Johnson's power head rocks back and forth more than I think it should. It also has a slight squeak when you rock it. I checked the lower and upper mount bushings and they seem good. There is a front mount bushing also but there appears there is no way to get at it with out disassembling the engine.

Could the front bushing be the one causing the rocking problem?
Is there some way to get to it and tighten it or replace it with out tearing the whole engine apart?

Thanks

You'd have to take off a bunch of stuff to get to them. Hard to say without being there if the problem is something to be concerned about.

Thanks for the reply tx, Does the bolt for the bushing run through the bushing or are the two studs attached together by the rubber bushing?

Don't see it in that diagram is that a 25hp looks like a 50hp? Mine is a tiller model short shaft and there is a bushing in the front middle at the top that attaches to the steering yoke. Two at the top sides two at the bottom the one in the front is the one I am talking about.

What is the model number of your outboard. OMC built two different types of 25s in 1998. One model was based on the old twin cylinder design and the other is a triple. Without the proper model number it is going to be hard to assist you.

Is your motor 2 or 3 cylinders?

Yes that is it. I am talking about part #28. How do you get to it to replace or repair it?

Are you sure that the mount is broken? Those studs are not connected together except by the rubber mount, and it is usually pretty apparent when that mount breaks because the rubber rips in the middle. You will have to disassemble a great deal of the motor to get to it, unfortunately.

Re: 1998 25hp Johnson mount bushing question

I am not sure it is broken but there is a lot of front to back play in the engine. I dosen't rock when you put power to the engine or rock back excessively. I was thinking the bolt must run through the mount and the rubber bushing was worn so there would be play in the mount. I was hoping some one here would have had a similar experience with an engine and could help me with the problem.
