I have a 1998 225 HP Mercury outboard that needs a new Trim Motor replaced, the model # is 225XLEFI.

The motor has 2 screws that need to be removed, the front screw is easily accessible, but the back screw isn't. It looks like the entire Trim Unit needs to be removed to access the second screw.
I do see the 6 bolts (3 on each side) that needs to be removed, but even with these removed it won't pull out far enough to access the back screw. It looks like the main Ram Arm also needs to be removed.

It would seem it should be easy to replace the Trim Motor without taking the entire unit out.

Anyway, and help would be appreciated.

Pull the pin on the ram and push tilt the power head back enough to get to the bolts

On my '93 Merc V6, I needed to remove one of the transom brackets to get to the back trim motor bolt.
