I have the 98 150 on the back of my stratos. THis motor has been sitting for a few years and picked it up for dirt cheap. The previous owner stated that there was no spark. Mounted it on the boat and proceeded to troubleshoot. Found the coil bad. Now it has spark. Anyways.... I hooked everything up and gave some fuel and oil. It fired right up and idles great. The issue is soon as I crank the Check engine light comes on with the horn. The engine will stay in the SLOW mode. The check engine light stays on with the alarm. Do not have the diagnostic equipment but was able to get into diagnostic mode by the TPS sensor. The codes I got were 13, and 35. I believe 35 was because I had the oil pressure switch connector off. According to the manual 13 would not put the engine in slow mode unless the TPS is bad. I do not have a 3000 ohm meter but was able to get some reading off of it and they were steady. Talking to another tech that has a 200 fitch he stated that the TPS sensors go bad all the time. Would the TPS sensor keep the engine from throttling up? I have a TPS on order. I am also going to change the impeller since it was not watering at idle. I have changed fuel filter, and spark plugs. Gas is premium non ethonal it does have oil mix in it from my previous motor. Not sure if this will cause an issue. Gas is only 4 months old and was stabilized for the winter. Any suggestions other than what I have mentioned. I need to get this engine runnning by next month for tournaments. THank you.
