Hi All
Ive got this 97 30HP Yamaha Oil Injected 2 stroke long shaft . It has hardly any hours on it . It runs really great but ( always a BUT) I use it for trolling in the river here and it seems to load up (rich) at low ( above idle to 1/8 ) throttle . Like its missing a bit and I can smell its getting to much oil or seems like it .
Is this something the dealer should undertake or can I mess with it ? It seems to run fine above the mentioned throttle range . Any ideas or comments are appreciated . Thanks

Jeff

Re: 1997 Yamaha 30HP Question

Don't think it is too rich in the oil department.

Probably just running a bit rich "fuel wise" in the transition between the idle circuit and the main metering circuit.

Maybe age is taking it's toll, albeit, what would seem too soon. If you use it for extended periods at low RPM's it may need a decarb treatment to loosen up the rings.

Now for tuning..... You might take it in and they might suggest a tune up, decarb, and perhaps even a carb rebuild. Not sure they would even mention or do any rejetting for you.

I might suggest you look to see if this motor has primary jet(s) in the carb(s) bump it (them) down a notch. (By Number) Couldn't hurt, at least, getting in there and giving the carb a tear down, wash out, and blow job, along with a fresh set of plugs.

This, although is not your motor might help somewhat.

http://www.frontiernet.net/~bob_aloo/Carbclean/CarbClean.htm
