1997 Volvo Penta 3.0GS Problems

I have a 1997 Volvo Penta 3.0GS Engine runs fine but When I push the throttle forward to give it gas no matter how fast or slow I push it it starts to bog down then about 30 seconds later it will accelorate fine but every time I touch the throttle I have the same problem also it constantly runs a 6000 rpms but the engine sound fine. any sugestion. someone please reply

What you're describing is classic accelerator pump failure. With the engine off, have someone push the throttle forward while you look into the carb. to see whether or not the pump is squirting fuel in.

My guess is that the diaphragm has failed, or the cam is way out of adjustment.

Post back what you find...

My '97 3.0GS has also started to do the same when we accelerate to pull the skier. I also suspect an accelerator pump, since it otherwise runs fine.

Let us know what you find.

btw, did you say 6000rpm in your post? I didn't think that engine would turn that fast without self-destructing. I max out at 4100rpm with a 15x17 prop due to the altitude.

I had my father come over and I pushed the throttle forward and he said it was pushing fuel how do I adjust the accelorator pump

Happycamper btw yes I did say 6000rpms or at least that is what the rpm gague reads

Here are the adjustments for you carb., per the factory manual (VP P/N 7797363-4). Print them out and good luck.
