I just bought a 1997 Starcraft Superfisherman with a 75hp mercury. My second time on the lake and I could smell gas and the boat stalled and would not restart, the smell of gas was strong. I called the marina and they are 2 1/2 weeks out for repairs. I took the cowling off to see if I could tell where the gas is coming from and there is some gas on the bottom of compartment. I took the air box off and there was excess gas all over inside. I know the guy I bought the boat from was messing with the settings, could it be something as simple as wrong settings or might it be more major. Added photos that you can see excess gas. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk246/forellma/Mobile Uploads/image-3.jpg

There does not appear to be a loose hose it just looks like there is a bunch of gas in the air box that leaked out, it appears as if it is coming from carbs.

If you are getting fuel coming out of the throat of the carbs you either have a reed problem or the carbs need rebuilt. Carbs are the most common problem, especially if the motor has been sitting without being ran.
