I just recently purchased this in a 97 Chaparral 2335. I hear about people hooking up computers to the engine to get data, engine hours, etc. Can someone tell me if it is possible on this Merc? If so, where would the access port be? Thanks

Only if it is the MPI version of the 7.4. Is it? Got a serial number of the engine to share?

On the MPI engines, the data port is in the 'electronics box' port side of the engine. You would need the proper software and connector to access the data. (Rinda/Diacom software))

Ahhhhh, ok, Thank you for the response. My 7.4 has a carburetor so no MPI? I don't know the serial number off hand.

If it is carbureted, then no need to be concerned about a computer, there is none. Those are only on fuel injected engines, because the computer runs the engine.
