I just bought my '97 BassTracker last month. The previous owner had it garaged for at least 2 seasons (I live in central PA). So, I emptied the gas tank and filled with fresh fuel and oil at the required 50:1. Took it out for it's first run and it seemed to run well enough at first. After about 10 minutes, I slowed at a favorite part of the riverand went to head back. Unfortunately, the motor bogged and stalled as I gave it throttle.
It started again but would continue to bog and stall just as soon as I gave it more throttle. I was able to finally nurse it up enough to get upriver and then out of nowhere, the revs kicked right up and it ran fine.
I put in a cleaner, but sorry I cannot remember what the cleaner was. It was recommended by a Mercury technician. And then took it up to the lake for a week. I got one good trip out of it for a day, the rest of the days it would do the exact same bogging and stalling and since has not gone back to normally working. One thing I also want to note. The bogging would happen when in gear. If I take it out of gear and try to just rev the engine up, most times it will do just that. But there are a few times where it has bogged and stalled.
I am not a motor guy and am hesitant to try too much on my own, but I am a learner. I'd rather try things myself instead of dropping it off at a shop and paying the bill and driving it away. So, if you kind folks would give me a little direction here, I will do what is asked.
